Military Connected Students
It is the intent of Whitehall School District to support our military-connected students. The Military Child Education Coalition has valuable resources for families of military-connected students covered by the Military Interstate Children's Compact. The following categories of military-connected students are covered by the compact:
Dependent students of active-duty members of the uniformed services, including members of the National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders (Title 10)- Dependent students of members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired, for a period of one year after discharge or retirement
- Dependent students of members who die on active duty, for a period of one year after death
- Dependent students of uniformed members of the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the United States Public Health Services (USPHS)
If the above criteria apply to your student, please contact our district's military family liaison, Hannah Nieskens, at [email protected]

We are proud that Whitehall High School has been designated a 2025-2026 Purple Star School!

This federal and state designation honors military-friendly schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. This is the commitment of our entire school district.
The high school awards purple graduation honor cords to graduating seniors who have joined the military. Purple is not only one of Whitehall High School's colors, purple is also the color you get when combining Marine Corps red, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, and Space Force blue, and a bit of Army green. We are proud of our students who choose the military after high school. 2025 Purple cord recipients: Ethan Wock, Gavin Woody

The district recognizes and honors current and former service members connected to our students at the district's annual Veterans Day Celebration and Assembly. This is a school-hosted military recognition event that demonstrates our district's commitment to a military-friendly culture. The community is welcome and encouraged to attend the event. Please email Janet Heilig, WHS music teacher, in the month of October or the first week of November if you would like to add a family member to the recognition list for the event; the list contains the names of veterans who have served in the various branches of our nation's military and will be displayed as part of the event. In addition, buglers from our school band are available to play "Taps" at local military funerals. Please email Janet Heilig to request. [email protected]
