SAFETY TIPS AND INFORMATION

The Whitehall School District is committed to providing well-managed facilities, school-based health supports, and a clear and fair discipline policy. Our goal is a safe environment for staff and students that is free of hazards, including violence, bullying, harassment, and substance use.

Safety Measures in Our Schools

Audio and Video Surveillance
Canine Detection – We have contracted with a private company to provide canines that visit our schools to conduct searches. The dogs are trained to detect illegal drugs, medication, gunpowder, firearms, and alcohol.
Limited Access - School buildings and the playground have limited access during the school day, with specific visitor check-in procedures in place.
Emergency Planning & Safety Drills - The district utilizes an emergency manual, and emergency procedures are in place for every building, practiced by staff and students throughout the year. Fire Drills, Shelter In Place, Lockdowns, and Evacuation procedures are practiced.
On-site registered nurse
First aid supplies, AEDs, Stop-the-bleed kits, EpiPens, Opioid Antagonists, and Fire extinguishers are in key locations on campus
Searches - The search of a student or their belongings by authorized school staff, if justified under the circumstances.
Sheriff Drop-Ins - We have requested that local law enforcement provide drop-in visits and walkthroughs by uniformed officers during the school day whenever possible.
Threat Assessments - Policies and procedures for when there is a notification of a student threat of harm to self, others, or property.

If the school building is evacuated or is locked down, how will I be able to locate my child?

If the crisis requires staff and students to relocate to a relocation site, staff will follow protocol to ensure a smooth, safe reunification. The District’s emergency notification system will be activated to notify parents of the relocation site. Parents will be required to show proper identification to pick up child(ren). A student can only be released to an adult who is documented as a parent, guardian, or emergency contact. Please make sure to keep all contacts and phone numbers updated in the school information system.
