Special Education
Shannon Joehnck
Teaching Experience:
14 Years
A little about me:
I have two wonderful children, ages 12 and 15. We spend much time together hiking, bowling, and watching movies. I am finishing my EMT license and starting my doctorate in Education, specializing in Special Education. My daughter does 4H and my son will be playing basketball.
Where I went to college:
I have 16 years of college and starting again. I went to Dakota State University for my elementary and special education program, plus my first master's. I went to Moorhead State University for my second master's and went to Montana State for my license as a special education director.
Where I went to high school:
Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, SD
My hobbies/interests:
Reading and crafting
My greatest influencers:
Mr. Olson, my principal from when I taught in Minnesota. He was so amazing and kind, and had your back with anything you needed. He's my go-to person if I ever have any questions.
What made me want to be a teacher:
The joy of working with students and seeing the light bulb go off when they learn something new. I started teaching Sunday school, which had the most influence on me to go into the teaching program. I double major in elementary and special education, but I chose to do special education because I like figuring out the puzzles with students in need.
My favorite thing about being a teacher:
Watching the students learn new things. Making them feel loved when they enter my classroom and that I want them to learn new things every day.
What I love about teaching in Whitehall:
Making me feel like part of a family.
I’d like you to know this about me:
I am willing to go the extra mile to help my students. If they have behaviors, I want to know what triggers them and how I can figure out how to help them. I'm always looking for a challenge.
My favorite things:
My favorite sport is football and running track and cross country. I love reading romance and mystery books. My favorite TV show is Nightwatch learning more things about EMT.
